We have had another day of mostly resting; an especially good idea because it has been raining most of the day. This is the first time since last April, the weather man says.
Karen came over for a visit, and we enjoyed seeing her. She became a little upset over one of the things we talked about.
After she left we had our lunch. Afterwards I got to thinking about it and called her, and we cleared the air.
Tonight we watched the first half of a Scotch movie, although we couldn't understand most of the Scotch accent. Kaye explained it when we talked to her, and we finished the movie OK. That was our day.

Today has been almost a repeat of yesterday. I rested most of the day, and Russ went to grocery shop for about an hour.
I woke up this morning lying on my right side, and it didn't hurt at all. I quickly turned over, just in case my jaw, face and ear might start to hurt. My only trouble today has been with my headache, a little bit of dizziness, and some trouble with my alimentary canal.
However, I still didn't feel up to going to Elynore Roger's funeral in Fallbrook tomorrow. I'm sure that the flower arrangement that Alene Ahrend is making up for us will be a suitable remembrance. Later I will write a letter of sympathy to Elynore's family.

Today was a complete rest for me, and I feel better tonight. Russ did go out to the bank, but he was here all day except for that.
I finished reading the book Kaye left for me. Patricia Briggs' story was good, but the other three by other authors were awful! I have never read many fantasies, and I won't again--except for Patricia's. Her fey don't go around killing lots of people.
Kaye had given us five Miss Marple DVDs for our anniversary. We watched two of them today, besides our news shows. The second one we had already seen, but with Elizabeth Taylor as the movie star and a whole different cast.

Since yesterday's blog appears in the right place, I assume this one will also. I'm on my new medication to clear up my infection, and I hope it will work this time.
This morning we went to the grocery store for milk and a few other things, and came right back home. After the shopping I felt the need of another rest.
After the rest and lunch Karen came over and visited a while. Then she and I went to do visiting teaching. It's late in the month, but the lady was out of town before when we tried.
At home I rested and read in the book Kaye lent me; then she will pick it up next time she comes down. The author had autographed it for her.
We are not sure about going to Fallbrook on Friday and again on Saturday. Now I'm not up to it.

This is an experiment, to try to find where my blogs have been going when they didn't get on my regular blog.
I am going through Foxfire, but I didn't turn off the computer before starting. I may end up in the wrong place again. If so, maybe we can trace it, so it won't happen again.
Today we washed sheets and towels while Roy was here. He did the cleaning of the house, and Russ and I did the plant watering and the sheets, etc. Carla had washed one batch before she left, so there wasn't as much as it could have been.
This afternoon I went back to the dentist to get another dose of anti-biotics. (Sp?) He gave me another one, and I think this will clear up my last swelling and outer ear problem.

All Carls's family are gone today..
Carla and Rex left at 6 a.m. to drive to Eugene, Ore. They called at 9 a.m. from Buttonwillow, and again at 9 p.m. when they reached Eugene.
We went back to sleep until Brittany and Bianca woke up. We had breakfast and they packed up to go to Bianca's apartment in Pomona, each in her own car. Bianca stopped on the way, in L. A. at the hotel they stayed in where she had left some clothing in a drawer. From there, she went to Bianca's and they went to her Singles' Ward in Pomona for church.
Russ and I just stayed home, resting up today. We had a little nap, talked to Karen and LaDel Harris. Gary Christensen called yesterday, to wish us Happy Anniversary, and we wished him Happy Birthday.

Visit with Al and dinner at Karen's..
This is Saturday's news. The blogs are going to different locations, and Kaye says she will help me straighten them out tomorrow.
This is our 66th anniversary and also the day everyone was to go visit Uncle Al. We got there in separate cars, but all managed it eventually. We visited in his apartment first, and then Logan and Maret had to leave for Utah. The rest of us had lunch in the dining room with Al downstairs.
Afterwards Carla and Bianca went shopping and the rest of us went to our house. Bianca was studying for exams Monday and Tuesday, the rest of us using computers and TV.
Then all together went to Karen and Terry's for dinner and talking. Afterwards at our house we watched a a movie until midnight.

Missing Blog
I still have another blog on the G-mail setting, I guess. I'll have to ask Kaye to help me fix it.
This morning we had breakfast, just as people wanted it, when they wanted it. Afterwards Bianca and Meret did some studying, and the rest of us just visited. Karen came over and joined in. Then later we had a lot of left-overs from Thanksgiving dinner for lunch.
Rex had been dirt biking with Travis, so the rest of us did a repeat of the morning's talk and looking at pictures the group was getting ready for a presentation at Logan and Meret's wedding reception .
Then we went to Soup Plantation for dinner. After that some went shopping, and the rest of us stayed here and repeated the mornings activities. It was a nice day altogether.

Missing blog Thanksgiving Day
This morning we went to the store to buy a couple of pies, because Karen had made only two, and I thought we might need more. She also bought two, so I hope Carla's family are really hungry tonight, when the get here from Disneyland.
We went to Karen's about 3 p.m. and Al was there, too. We thought Logan and Meret would be back in time for Thanksgiving dinner with us, but they didn't make it. However, Karen sent home with us all the left-overs from the great dinner she cooked.
It's almost 8 p.m. and I expect Carla and Family to be here soon.
I did finally get Kendra Gillian on the phone. She says they are all well, and James is going to college one year before he goes on his mission. They all had Thanksgiving dinner at Robb's grandmother's house.

A nice visit.
Somehow Tuesday's blog didn't get on this blog. Logan and Meret came and stayed overnight with us. Now they have gone back to Los Angeles where they will meet the rest of the family and go to Disneyland.
However, Logan and Meret will be back to have Thanksgiving dinner with us at Karen's, and the rest of the family will come that night.
Today We had to go to San Marcos for Russ' blood tests, and Logan and Meret stayed here and studied. they are both in school. She is studying Law, and Logan Engineering.
We had a late lunch at Mimi's restaurant, then we came back to the house and Logan and Meret packed up their things , and left a while later.
Tuesday, November 20, 2007
This morning we started the washing, and then went grocery shopping. We got most of what we needed, but I left my folding cane in the store somewhere. Luckily I have another cane.
Logan called, and he said he and Meret would be coming down later today, to spend the evening with us. We sort of thought they would be here by dinnertime, but they are caught in traffic and delayed.
Karen had brought over a roasted chicken and some great mashed potatoes. We had some of that had that and some peas. We will have salad and dessert with Logan And Meret when they arrive.
I'll close now, and go get the bedrooms ready.

Missing Blog
I went for my dental appointment this morning, Russ came with me and waited while I had a root canal done. It took almost two hours, and I'm to go back in about two weeks for another session. I'm not sure just what that entails.
My mouth was still anesthetised at lunch, so I ate a hot dog on a stick. Then I napped in my chair for a couple of hours. I straightened up the house for about an hour, and then my visiting teacher and her husband came, bringing a basket of fruit and the lesson.
Tonight I've been reading in the book Kaye left, and after enjoying Patty Brigg's short story, I agree with Kaye that the next story isn't very good . I'll read more tomorrow.
My cheek and ear are still sore tonight. I think I'll have the next bad tooth pulled.

Better.
Karen came and took me to Church with her, and Russ stayed home to be here when the plumber came.
When Karen brought me home from Church, the plumber was still here, and the water was turned off in the house. So, we had hot dogs on a stick from the freezer for lunch. Finally the plumber was done, and gave us an estimate on replacing both hand bowls in that bathroom. We will wait a while to have that done. He did a good job on the shower, though.
After he left we sat down in the recliners to watch a little TV, and we both fell asleep. After we woke up, I called Charles and Mabel and invited then down for Thanksgiving, but they both have colds and have doctor's appointments for help, and they declined and will stay home.
Karen is going to cook the turkey, and has invited us there for Thanksgiving. We will go.

Plans didn't work.
Things didn't go just as we all had planned. Kaye's plane to Seattle was grounded, and she had to fly later to Portland. From there she took a plane to Pasco, where Kyle met her. They were home about 4:30 p.m. instead of 11:30 a.m.!
I had moved my hair appointment to 2:30 p.m., thinking Kaye would call before then, and tell us she was home. But I was back from the appointment when she called.
Since then we contacted a plumber who will come tomorrow and fix the on-off and temperature control on the shower in the back bathroom. It can be used as-is, but it's a nuisance.

Last day of Kaye's visit.
This morning we went to 1st Pacific Bank and opened an account, which we will use to pay bills. Kaye will help us manage our finances, and be able to pay bills if we are incapacitated.
After setting up this, we went to lunch, then back to the bank to make a deposit to finish up the business. I think it's a good idea. We will have debit cards, and keep only just what we need to pay the bills in the account.
We came home again, talked a while, and then we drove to Karen and Terry's house for dinner.
Afterwards we came home, to go to bed early, since Karen will pick up Kaye at 3:45a.m. to go to the plane in San Diego. She will arrive in Pasco,Wa. at 11:45, and Kyle will meet her.

A day at home.
Today Russ and Kaye worked on the two computers most of the day and also got a new double entry records keeper installed. It should help us keep track of all our financial transactions.
We spent the day indoors with the air conditioner on; the temperature was above 80 degrees all day.
Kaye had brought lots of DVDs with her, and we have enjoyed seeing some with her. She will leave them here, so we can look at all, and then we can send them back to her.
Kaye had planned to see Uncle Al today, but when the time came, she didn't feel up to driving. She will go tomorrow earlier in the day.

Haunted by a tooth.
We'll start with my dental appointment. Russ and Kaye went with me, and Kaye came in with me for the x-rays and talked to the hygienist and doctor. I was so glad to have her there, to help.
It seems I need a root canal, and if that won't work, I will have the tooth pulled. It's the last one on the bottom of the right side, the one that the old dentist had put a gold crown on a year ago.
I go back to the dentist next Monday. In the meantime we will just visit with Kaye and enjoy her visit.
Kaye and I did go get a prescription in Carlsbad, and we stopped at Tamarack Beach on the way back, and walked along the seawall. Kaye also went down to put her bare feet in the ocean.
Tuesday, November 13, 2007
Kaye and I went shopping at Cost-Co this morning, and we came home for lunch. Afterwards we watched a cute movie of Kaye's, and later Kaye and Karen went shopping at a fabric store.
While they were gone Russ and I rested, and I finished reading the last Harry Potter book. I had forgotten most of the stories, so I re-read some of them. I'm caught up now, until the new movies come out.
We looked at pictures of our house, and Kaye's, that were taken from a satellite. Kaye got them up for us on her computer. I didn't realize just what the orientation of Kaye's house was.
I have an 8 a.m. appointment with my dentist tomorrow, so I'm going to bed early.

Kaye arrived.
This morning we had a plumber here to find out why the shower in the back bathroom doesn't have much water pressure on it. While doing that he broke a screw, and messed up the whole thing. He wants a lot of money to fix it, so Russ got another plumber to look at it, and he won't charge so much to fix it. He will come on Wednesday.
Karen picked up Kaye at the airport, and they got here about 3:30. We have had a nice afternoon and evening with Kaye. She helped me fix dinner, and we talked until late tonight.
It's bedtime, so I'll stop now.

Plans all set.
A few drops of rain fell tonight, and we are supposed to get more in the night. I sort of doubt it.
We went to church this morning and stayed for all three meetings. One of the speakers was very good, and it was nice to see one of the stake presidency there, Elder Perkins.
After church we came home and had a bite of lunch, then Karen came over for a while. After she left I read the paper until almost supper time. Russ cooked steaks we had a nice dinner.
After that I read in the Harry Potter book for a while. We talked to Kaye and to Carla, and were happy the plans are all set for Kaye to come down tomorrow, and Carla and family the next week. I wish it were the same week, but we can't have everything.
Saturday, November 10, 2007
The weather couldn't make up its' mind whether to rain or be clear, so it did each off and on. It was chilly, but not bad at all, so we went out to a couple of stores for supplies.
This afternoon I was reading the last Harry Potter book again, and I find I really had forgotten a lot of it. I must have skipped along too fast, trying to see how it ended. I had forgotten entirely what the Deathly Hallows were; and that the old headmaster came back, sort of, to help Harry.
Tonight we watched our British shows again. There really must be something new and good on the TV. We will have to look for it.

A busy day.
I finally did our washing, 10 day's worth of clothes and sheets and towels.
At noon we picked up Ruth Shoppe, whom Russ home teaches, and went out for fish hamburgers.
They were hot and good, and we had a good visit with her while we ate. She grew up in Tremonton and went to the same high school as Russ, but earlier. She is two years older than he is.
At home we were going to look her up in a yearbook, but we forgot. We'll have to do it after I finish this blog, and he finishes watching a TV news show.
Karen took my mother's diary to read, she thinks she may have got some things wrong about her story. That would be easy to do; she did a lot of unusual things in her lifetime.

New Pillows.
Our main job today was to buy new pillows for the guest room. We got two, plus two new pillow cases. I washed the quilted spread along with the pillow cases. I'll do the blanket later.
After lunch we went for a walk around the neighborhood, and there are two houses for sale on our block, and one for rent. Then we walked along Roselle a little way, and then back to our house.
We spent the rest of the day reading and watching TV. I did try to remove some spots from the carpet, but it didn't work. I'll try again tomorrow.
It was another cool cloudy day, no sun at all. Next week the sun is supposed to come out.
The Longs brought over some oranges from their trees while we were away. We called to thank them.

Our Temple visit.
We left for the Temple about 9:15. Jane Oddou came with us. Karen and I visit teach her, and she and her husband come to Karen and Terry's house as home teachers. The traffic wasn't as heavy as usual, and we had almost half and hour to get ready once we had arrived.
We got out a little after noon, and we drove back to Oceanside with light traffic. Jane wanted to go right home, because she and her husband are supervisors of their area of Disaster Preparedness for the ward. Then the three of us went to Carl's Jr. for lunch.
I found that I got along easier than last time at the Temple. There's a lot of standing up and sitting down at each session, and exercises Kaye recommended for my knees really worked; I didn't need any help getting up and sitting down again. I just held onto the back of the seat in front of me (they are all fastened down to the floor.) They did say, though, that we didn't need to stand if we had any trouble.

Something new.
We had trouble getting in and out of bed, so we tried something new, satin sheets. They allow us to slip in and out easily, but we can't us the pillow cases, because our heads kept slipping off the satin cases! We use the cotton ones for that. After a two week's trial, we got another set satin of sheets.
We didn't do much today. It's cloudy again, so we didn't go for a walk. Maybe tomorrow.
All the fires except one are contained, and that one has 5% more to go.
I learned how to do an e-mail tonight, and now I hope I can do it again. Everyone around here does, and I might as well get with it. Even the Relief Society does it.
Karen invited us to go with her to the Temple tomorrow, so I'll get my things ready.
Monday, November 5, 2007
A really lacklustre day.
I haven't done anything worth writing about. I went with Russ while he watered the orchids and other plants that need special care. I did some hand washing, but not the usual Monday wash.
This afternoon a man from the city water Co. came by to check our system to see if there's water leaking under the slap under the house. He couldn't find any leaks. So, I guess the cost of water has just gone up, not our use of it.
Tonight we will read and listen to the New Testament books of Philippians, Colossians and Philemon

The LDS churches went to help fire victims.
This morning we went to church, after changing back our clocks an hour. The chapel was full, I guess a lot of people enjoyed the extra hour to get ready and come. The Bishop talked about the work the church in the area has helped the people who had to evacuate and some to lose their homes to the fires. Lots of food and supplies have been donated. And the members are asked to volunteer to help clean up after the fires.
Several people in the ward went to Fallbrook on Saturday to help the owners clean up their lots and look for things in the ashes. We didn't know about it; I guess they figured we wouldn't go anyway.
We talked to the Don Long today, and he said he was a pillow bandit; he inadvertently took our pillows when he packed up to leave to go back to their home in Fallbrook.

A correction of yesterday's blog.
Yesterday I said Gabe Harris would be going back to the Far East, when I meant the Near East.
This morning I had my hair fixed, and Russ bought some groceries. We came home, and had lunch. Then we went shopping again, and this time we got the last Harry Potter book and a DVD of "Fiddler on the Roof". Russ seemed pleased with both of them.
After dinner tonight Karen came over and brought the birthday balloons and the cake and ice cream left from the party.
We heard all about their trip to the Jazz Festival and how Candace and Danya are. Candace is off the cancer treatments for a while, and Danya is very busy with her first year of teaching Special Education children.
Tonight we watched our Brit shows on TV, and they were all re-runs we had seen recently.

The birthday party.
This afternoon we went shopping for some DVDs that Russ wanted, my birthday present for him. But we couldn't find them, so we just got a few small items and came home. We'll go out tomorrow and try to find them .
Karen had invited us to their house for a birthday dinner, and we bought some ice cream to go with the cake Karen had made, and went to their house. Uncle Al was there, and also Gabe Harris, who is at Camp Pendleton for several week's special training , before going back to Hawaii. (His family is living in naval housing at Pearl Harbor, and he works on the other side of the island.) He said they really like living in Hawaii.
Gabe told us that he will be going back to the Far East after his tour in Hawaii. We all thought it was hot there, but he said it's really cold in the winter. I hope the war is over before he has to go back.

Karen got home this afternoon. We will have a party for Russ' birthday in the next few days. He has opened the cards and gifts already, because this is officially the day.
This afternoon we went to Circuit City to buy the last Harry Potter CD, but they didn't have it. We will try somewhere else later.
We watched part of one of the CDs Kaye sent, and it was fun to see the old Rockford Files again.
Carla, Rex, Brittany and Bianca all called, besides Karen and Kaye. It was nice to hear from them.
Tonight we will watch some more of the Rockford files, and maybe something else, too.
