This morning we went to breakfast, and then to the Gentle Yoga exercise class. I had one stiff knee, but by the time the class was over, it was feeling better. I guess it just needed the stretching we all did. We came back to the apartment, read the morning paper, and rested a while. At lunch time we went to the dining room and had lunch. Then we went downstairs to the lobby to wait for the driver to come take us to Vista Kaiser Clinic, where I was to have my left eye measured, before going in to have the lens removed. When we were in his car , I asked if there was a way to get there and not get on the freeway. He said yes. Well, we took a long roundabout route that took longer than the freeway route. Fortunately we were early for the appointment, and we got to the clinic about 25 minutes early. I had to wait until my appointment, and then it lasted longer than than they said it would. We had to pick up prescriptions after wards, and just as we got them, Chris was trying to call for the driver from Las Villas but he came right in. He thought he had lost us, but the receptionist told him where we were, and we got to gether and drove back to the Villas. We were a little early for dinner, so we just stayed here until it was time to go to the dining room. Afterward we talked to Karen, and she will drive us to San Diego tomorrow, where Chris has another injection in his eye, to stop the macular degeneration. We talked to Carla and Rex, and they told us about their Thanksgiving. We had talked to Kaye earlier, on our way back from Vista.

Sunday, November 29, 2009

We skipped breakfast, except for a half a banana, had our morning medications, and went to church. Karen was there, but Danya didn't come. She had a fever and cough last night. But she did go home by train, and she is safely there now. We had planned to go out to lunch, but we skipped it , because of Danya's illness. We stayed here, and had a good lunch. We both had a nap, and then we went for a walk around the buildings. On the way, we checked on our storage locker in building C, and there's plenty of room for more storage, like a lot of the videos we have here in the apartment. After we got back, we had dinner in the dining room, and then came back to the apartment. We decided to watch one of our old movies, and we picked "My Fair Lady". I couldn't remember it until the first scene, then it came back to me. We watched it anyway, and it was delightful. We are going to put in the storage locker all the things we aren't using here, like the extra videos and the packing boxes we have never gotten out of the way in what we call the computer room. One of the reasons we are keeping the boxes is that when Karen and Terry get the house they are thinking about, and if they decide to move up to the Pismo area, we will move up there, too. Karen said there is a nice retirement house near there. However, we will probably stay here for now.

Saturday, November 28, 2009

After breakfast we went back to the apartment and read the paper. Then we decided to go to the Stretch and Flex exercise class. It was much harder than the Gentle Yoga yesterday, and I had to stop before it was over. Chris left with me and we went back to the apartment. We went through some old video tapes, packing some for storage and others to keep with us. We went to lunch, and came back to do more. Then we watched one of the videos, "Advise and Consent", with lots of old movie stars. It was black and white, but interesting none-the- less. Before dinner I took the clothes down to the laundry and washed them. We went to dinner while they were drying. Now they are mostly folded and most put away. The socks didn't get dry, so I am hanging them up here rather than going back to the laundry room. Karen,Terry and Danya are back from their day trip to L.A., and Karen wasn't particularly impressed by the Reagen Library. She didn't tell us about what else they saw, but when we see them after church in the morning, they may tell us about the rest of the trip. We talked to Kaye, and she told us part of the visit with her sons and grandson. She also sent a couple of pictures of Caden, and she said she would send a video of him when she finds one short enough to put on the e-mail. We called Carla, and it was raining there, so I guess Monty, Rex's brother, didn't get to play golf on their course at Bandon. over Thanksgiving. Speaking of rain, we had three short, hard rains here today.

Friday, November 27, 2009

This morning we had breakfast as usual, and then we went to the Gentle Yoga exercise class. We got out of there a little late for my appointment with my visiting teacher, Peggy Plylor, at 10 o'clock. But we met her as we got out of the elevator on our floor. She had been to our apartment and was just leaving to try to find us by talking to the greeter downstairs. Anyway, we had a nice visit. talking about all our families. We have known them for the last ten years, and most of her family still live here, and she has met our daughters and most of the grandchildren. Later we had the lunch that the dining room here had prepared for us for last night, since the dining room was closed after their Thanksgiving dinner ended about 1 p.m. It was still nice, and we finished with a piece of the pie Karen had sent home with us yesterday. In the afternoon Karen and Danya came over for a visit. Danya had just had her hair cut in a different style and a reddish color applied to it. It was quite bright, but they both said it would calm down a little as she washes it. Danya told us more about her teaching job in Portersville. She has classes all day with disadvantaged children from the fifth and six grades. She is very patient, so I'm sure she does a good job with them. Karen had brought us two complete Thanksgiving dinners, left from yesterday, and they were just as good as yesterday's. And we had another piece of pie afterward. And now, we will watch the news with Bill Moyers.

Thursday, November 26, 2009

We started this Thanksgiving day with breakfast here at Las Villas, and then we received a call from Brittany, and she was on her way down here. But before coming to our apartment, she was going to an exercise club she belongs to here in Carlsbad. She arrived here about 11, and and we had a good time catching up what has happened since we saw her last. The she studied a bit, and then she curled up on the sofa and had a short nap. We woke her in time to go to Karen and Terry's house for Thanksgiving dinner, which started about 3. When we arrived there, we visited with them and with Danya, and Al, who were already there. Then we all had a nice turkey dinner with all the trimmings. Then we had pie, four kinds to choose from. I had mince and apple, and then after dinner Karen sent us home with a full pie tin filled with pieces of each pie. And I had a piece tonight for supper, instead of the lunch the dining room here had provided for us. Chris didn't have any. I hope he gets some tomorrow, it is all so good. After we got back to the apartment, Brittany left to go back to Fullerton. She said she would call when she got there, but she forgot, so we called her. We thought of calling Kaye, but Race, Stellan, Sara and Caden were there, so we didn't want to interfere with the visit. Kaye loves that baby, as though it was hers, instead of being her grandson. We talked to Carla, and thanked her for the picture book, and the cake she said was coming.

There was no water exercise class this morning, so after breakfast we went to the Gentle Yoga class. That, I could do much better than I did in the regular exercise class yesterday. Besides that, it was only 30 minutes long. It was cut short, because a group of Christian people were coming to direct a sing-along with the residents. Curious, we went down to the lobby and joined the group. The song books they handed out had just the words of about 100 hymns, printed in big letters, so all people in the retirement homes they go to could read them. We stayed about half and hour, when Chris got a coughing spell and we left. We walked around the front of the building and it was a nice day, and when we got back inside the singing was over. I had rather enjoyed the singing; there were several songs that are in our hymn books, but some with different words. We had to go back to the Kaiser Clinic to get the medicine they had left out of our package yesterday. We drove along the ocean, and it was blue and gleaming in the sunshine, and that made it better to have to go back there. There was no trouble getting the prescription, and we came back here, after the nice ride. Chris asked me if I wanted to do my blog, but I said no, that something really interesting might come up later. Well, it didn't, we just had our dinner and then watched the news. The interesting part of the day was over. However, we did also watch and listen to some of the survivors of the Hotel bombing in Bombay. It was a well-done presentation, without showing the dead and dying, as some of the shows do.

Tuesday, November 24, 2009

Today was quieter than yesterday, but we did one new thing. After breakfast we went to an exercise class. called Stretch and Flex. And it was a real workout for me. I had to give up on some of the exercises! I'll go back to the water exercises next week, at least. It seemed a bother to get in a swim suit and then get out of it and have a shower afterward. But I can do better with that than the other exercises. Karen called, and invited us to go to the beach with her and have our sandwiches with her as we looked at the waves and the occasional surfer and the blue ocean and lighter blue sky. We came back here and then went to the Kaiser Clinic to pick up some prescriptions. When we got back here we discovered we hadn't got one of them. We will have to go back tomorrow and straighten it out. We watched a couple of TV shows, and then went to dinner. It wasn't very good, but the lemon pie afterward was good. We talked briefly to Kaye, and her washer has broken down, and she is shopping for something to use until the new house is built, with its new washer and dryer. We will call her later and see if she was successful in getting a temporary solution. I bought a cherry pie on a sale here, and we gave it to Karen to use as part of the Thanksgiving dinner Thursday.

Monday, November 23, 2009

After Breakfast we took our newspaper and went down to the lobby to read it, because the housekeeper was at the apartment cleaning it. We came back here to wait until time for the Villas bus to take us to Vista for my two doctors' appointments. The bus was late taking us, but fortunately the first doctor was a little behind schedule. We waited about 5 minutes, and then he examined my eyes. Then we went to the second doctor, who had done the surgery on my right eye. After his exam, and his looking at the report of the other doctor, he recommended I have the cataract removed from the left eye. We agreed, and we got appointments for his pre-op. visit, and for the surgery appointment, which is on Dec. 17. That will give me time to recover before Christmas, thank goodness. The bus from the Villas came to pick us up, and he had the people for the beach trip, so we went with them to the beach. He went near the Tamarack beach we like best and parked on the highway. We got out and walked along the sidewalk above the beach, and it was a lovely clear day, and the water was beautiful. We came back to the apartment and had a nap, and then we went to dinner. Now we will watch the nightly news on TV.

Sunday, November 22, 2009

Today we went to Sacrament Meeting at the church in Oceanside. The former Bishop (our home teacher) and his wife were the speakers. They were very good, and afterward he asked if he could come visit this afternoon. Of course we said yes. So, He arrived about 3 p.m. when he said he would. He brought Brownies, I didn't ask if he had made them, or if his wife had. I just accepted them and said thank you very much. We will have them for our dessert after dinner tonight. Anyway, we had a good visit of almost an hour. We shared stories about our families and talked about accepting the gospel, he told us about his family, which aren't members, and we shared our stories about our families. After he left we looked at the newspaper and I read the ads to see if there was anything we would want to buy people for Christmas. There wasn't anything. I wanted Florsheim shoes for my husband, but the ad isn't in the Sunday paper, and I have gotten rid of the paper the ad was in. We went to dinner and sat with some interesting people. One of them was a woman who had told us her life story once before, but this time it was a little more flowery. She didn't remember telling us about it before. Karen called, to tell us they will be coming home tomorrow; we had thought it was today and were beginning to worry. Her call was very welcome.

Saturday, November 21, 2009

We went to breakfast and then Chris drove me to my hair appointment with Amy at the Unique Beauty Salon. Amy and I were the only ones there, except for a man putting in more shelves for supplies in the back of the shop. Anyway, I put off telling her that I wouldn't be coming back, until it was time to pay her. By then there were two more operators and clients, it was more of a problem. But I did it anyway, and made a mess of it. I told her our ages, and that our daughters didn't want us driving on the freeway, which we had to do to get there. Anyway, I made everything a mess by dropping some tears. She got a cold wet paper to wipe my eyes, which I did, and I just gave her the bills in my purse, which included the price of the hairdo and about a $1o tip, and we hugged, and I left. She followed me out, and insisted I come back inside to wait for my husband to pick me up. He wanted to meet me at the drugstore, so I just slipped out of the shop when she was busy with someone else, and met him. By that time I was calm again. We came back to the apartment and spent our usual day. We got a package containing our aniversary and Christmas gift from Carla and Rex; an album of pictures of their family, and the others, that she had taken. We will really enjoy it. We called and thanked them for it. And we'll be happy to share it with any of you who read this and come down. We also talked to Kaye, and she has picked out the kitchen appliances for her new house. I'm so glad she is going to have the new house, close to town.

Friday, November 20, 2009

We went to breakfast as usual, and then we went to Gentle Yoga exercise class. It is directed by the same woman who leads the swim class. Some of the exercises are the same as in the pool, but without the support of the water to help you. If I can get over my cough, I'll go back to the water exercise. We came back to the apartment and read the paper. I did call once to cancel it's delivery, but it is still coming. Maybe we will get a bill one of these days! Chris doesn't think we need it, that we can get all the news on the TV. But I have read a newspaper since I was old enough to read, and it is a life-long habit that is hard to break. After lunch we sort of rested up; I had hurt my knee while doing the exercises earlier. After the knee felt better I took the laundry down to the 2nd floor, and while the clothes washed and dried, read in one of the French editions of Patricia Briggs books that Kaye has sent to me. It has been over 40 years since I taught a class in French, and it has sort of slipped away. It will take a while to get back to the language, but I intend to do it. Kaye just called, and she told us of the latest news on the house they are having built. I'm glad she has that coming to fruition. She does need a good place to live.

Thursday, November 19, 2009

It was a quiet day for us. We had breakfast, and then Karen came over for a short visit before she started on her trip to the Pismo Beach area. She is thinking of buying a house there, and moving up in a year or two. Terry will come up later in the week and see what she likes of those an agent has found for them. After she left us here, it was too late to go to the exercise class, so instead we came back to the apartment and read the morning paper. We had lunch, and after about half and hour we went over to the health care unit and visited Verla Reece. She is looking better than she did when she left for the hospital, and she seems to be feeling better, too. She did say, though, she likes staying in bed. I hope she gets over that, and can come back to live here on our floor again. They are keeping her apartment for her, so I think it won't be long until she is back. We just had a call from Karen. She arrived, and she has already seen some houses. There is one that she thinks might do, but she waiting for Terry to come up to see it. In the meantime she is going to look at more houses that are available. They wouldn't be going up there for at least a year, so any house they buy, they would rent out until they are ready to move. We talked to Kaye, too. She had her shot, so today she has been in bed getting over it and the fever it causes. I didn't realize it before, but she is plagued, too, by migraine headaches along with the nausea.

Wednesday, November 18, 2009

With what happened yesterday, I determined to take it easier today with any exercise. So, after breakfast we decided not to go for a long walk, but instead we would go to the class called Gentle Yoga. It was easier to do than the ones we did yesterday. Afterward I decided to stay and see a movie of all 48 of the National Parks. I saw the two in Alaska, American Samoa, and one of the those in Hawaii, and then I slept through several more, and woke up later to see the ones in Utah, the Smoky Mountains, I had skipped all the rest. Maybe I can see film again sometime. We went to lunch and met some new people who have just moved in here. We came back to the apartment, I had my eye drops, and while I was siting there, I fell asleep, and slept the afternoon away. Chris didn't wake me up; he figured I needed the sleep. I guess I did. We went to dinner and sat with the nice little lady across the hall, at the end. Her daughter wasn't there, but Nan talked to us a bit. She doesn't hear well. We came back here and watched a news cast, and now we will see another one. Then we'll watch one of the movies waiting here to be seen.

Tuesday, November 17, 2009

After breakfast we intended to go to an exercise class down on the second floor, but we let the time run away with doing other little things. So, we decided to do the exercises on a CD we have, called Exercise for Seniors. Well, we did, and I got completely exhausted. I should have slowed down, but instead I insisted on doing it all with the people on the TV. We had arranged to go to lunch, and Karen with us, at Mimi's Cafe, where we had a $3o gift from the High Priest Group at the church, because we have the longest marriage of all those in the group. Karen came for us, so we wouldn't have to park two cars in the lot of such a popular restaurant. Karen let us out and then parked the car. By the time she had done that, Chris was in the cafe reserving a table, and I waited outside for Karen to come. By the time she got there, I had suddenly become nauseated, and I threw up into the bushes in the planter outside the door. Well, we drove back to the apartment, and by then, I had come to the conclusion that it was because of the exercise class, that was just to hard for me to do yet. I just assumed I was OK, when I wasn't. I rested a while, then had tea and crackers and soup, and part of a cheese sandwich, and I rested and watched a little TV, and didn't get sick again. I look forward to a better day tomorrow.

Monday, November 16, 2009

After breakfast and reading the newspaper that is delivered to our door, we went for a long walk. We walked all around the buildings of Las Villas, and then we went down the back street to the first through street, west on that, and then east back to the apartments. We didn't go to the pool, because I still have my cough, and I don't want to make it worse. After lunch Karen came over and picked us up to go down to the beach. It was a perfect day, the sun shining on the blue ocean, with the white breaking waves in contrast. It was beautiful. We sat there and talked, for about an hour., I guess. We talked about her going up to Pismo Beach area, where her real estate agent there had found three houses for her, and Terry, to look at as an investment, with the idea of moving up there sometime. She would like to be up there, near the children that Lynn and Jamie's family have. Also, it's near where she lived once with the family. When we got back, I left my purse in the car; but Karen said she would keep it and give it back when we see her again tomorrow.

Sunday, November 15, 2009

Chris had a nose-bleed in the night. He got it stopped after a while in the recliner and came back to bed. We went to Church and stayed for only one meeting. I didn't cough during the service, for which I am grateful. We sat with Karen, and afterward she talked about her trip to the Pismo Beach area next week-end. I told her about Bianca's doing a month's internship at a hospital in Santa Maria. And Karen will get in touch with her there. We came back to Las Villas, and a man came up to clean up the blood spots on the carpet. I told him I had tried to wipe them up with a dry tissue, and he said a baby wipe was better. He left a few spots, and I think he was seeing with only one eye.; at least, he was looking at me with only one. Tomorrow I'll try to clean up the rest of the spots. We had lunch, read the Sunday paper, and then had a nap. Tonight we watched a Sherlock Holmes episode, and now we will see a movie that's coming on. It's time for it, so I will close for today.

Saturday, November 14, 2009

We hurried through breakfast, and then we went to the shopping center where my hairdresser is. I had my hair set, and Chris did some shopping for a few things we can't get at the little store in the lobby here. He also got some cereal and some milk, that doesn't have to be refrigerated, to go with it. That way we can stay in the apartment in the mornings if we don't want to go to the dining room. When my hair was done we came right back to Las Villas. We read the paper and watched the news, worked a little on the computers. We went to lunch, where we met two new people. One was an ex-Marine, and the other man didn't say anything about his life. The ex-Marine has a wife in the care center, where she is getting over a broken hip. She has broken several bones, including the other hip. I'm glad I haven't had such bad luck. My breaks have been in less serious places. She is only 81; I hope she is better from now on. The other man is in a wheelchair, and he didn't say anything about his wife. I wasn't anxious to go to dinner tonight, but it turned out quite well, ham steak, mashed potatoes, and mixed vegetables. I also had a hot lemonade for my throat and cough, which really haven't gotten much better.

Friday, November 13, 2009

We went to Breakfast as usual, and then we went to the Gentle Yoga Class instead of the water exercise. It was taught by the same woman who does the water exercise class, and she used some of the same exercises. They were harder to do, I think because in the water you are supported partly by the water. Whatever it was, I was more tired afterward than when we do the water exercise. I will be able to do the water one next week, because it will have been two weeks since my eye surgery. Karen called and invited us to go out to lunch with her. We did, and had fish tacos, which were very good. I also had lemonade to ease my throat, and hopefully help stop my coughing. It seemed to work. I have been coughing less the rest of the day. At 3:30 we went to the Birthday celebration for all the residents who were born in November. They served very good cake and ice cream, and a singer entertained everyone. The new people were introduced, and then all the people with birthdays; Chris was the first. We weren't very hungry after all the cake, ice cream and drinks, so we didn't go to dinner. Instead we had a sandwich and hot tea in the apartment and watched the news on the TV, including Bill Moyers' Journal.

Thursday, November 12, 2009

We didn't go anywhere today, but it was partly busy anyway. After breakfast I decided to do the washing, because I was running out of things to wear. I should have waited until late afternoon, the way I did last time; I had to wait while others used the machines, but not too long before I could use one washer. I had that batch in the drier, and put another in the washer, and I went back to apartment for hangers. Instead of going back to the laundry room, Chris and I went to lunch. When that was over, he went with me to pick up the clothes. When we got back to the apartment and had the clean things put away, I sat down, wrapped up in a blanket, and stayed there the rest of the afternoon. My sore throat and cough are still with me, and perhaps it's because I didn't rest all day instead of the washing and chasing around to do that. I'll do better tomorrow, I promise myself. We heard from Kaye and also Brittany. Brittany said she can get things at Disneyland this week at half price; I couldn't think of anything, except their good fudge, and she'll get that for me. Kaye sent pictures of Caden, getting his first haircut, and he's so cute! Also, she sent pictures of the new house, the cement had been poured, so it's finally getting started. I hope everything goes well with the building.

Wednesday, November 11, 2009

I just read all the mistakes on the last blog, so I'll be sure to re-read this one so I will pick them up. I missed writing yesterday, I guess just because we didn't do much. You could say that about today too. We did go to the Kaiser Clinic down the coast a little way. I was to have my blood pressure taken again by a professional. Well, it turned out that the nurse who took it was not a registered nurse, but a student, from Palomar. She had to review all my medications, and I had only an out-of-date list in my purse. She wanted to make sure I was taking everything I should. Well, I couldn't remember all of them, so I had her call Chris in. He remembered, because he took care of them when I was still confused after the pneumonia in the hospital. I guess I'm still a little confused. Anyway, the blood pressure was normal, so all is well. On the way back to Las Villas we stopped at Tamarack Beach. We went for a walk along the sidewalk next to the beach, and we enjoyed it. Although the sun was not entirely out, the ocean was clear and almost flat, except for the waves that came up on the shore. There were two surfers with longboards who had a paddle, and the stood on the boards and paddled along. They even rode a couple of waves that way. That's the first time I have seen them ride a wave successfully.

Monday, November 9, 2009

Since it is Monday the cleaning woman would come, so we left early and went to breakfast. She was still two or three apartments away, we knew we had plenty of time. In fact, we came back and picked up our newspaper and took it downstairs to read in the lobby. Then, since we weren't sure our rooms would be done yet, we went outside and sat in the car to finish the paper. Chris went to sleep in the car, and I got out and sat on a bench and talked to another resident here. She is only 86, but she said she has great, great grand-children! I couldn't believe it, but then I realized maybe she was a little confused, and only thought that. But she had married when she was 16, so maybe that was right. After Chris woke up after a 25-minute nap, we went for a walk down Laguna to the next street and back. By then it was time for lunch, so we went back inside for that. We thought about going down to the beach with the bus that was going, but I got busy reading and Chris was working at the computer, so we missed it. We'll try again next time the bus goes. It's time we got into more of the activities around here. Besides, we have to go back to the Kaiser Clinic this week for another blood pressure check. I guess they don't think my records of it are right. Maybe they are not. We'll see. Anyway, we can walk along the beach after when we go to the Clinic.

Sunday, November 8, 2009

We didn't go to Church this morning, because my cough and sore throat are still with me, and I didn't want to pass it on to friends at church who often hug each other, and me. We went to breakfast, though, and then came back here to take nose drops and other meds. I sat in the leather chair for my drops, and just sat there and went to sleep for an hour and a half! Later we went to lunch, and both times people asked about you, Kaye. That happens whenever one of our family comes to meals with us. I guess they all like to see someone young, as we certainly do. Karen came over just after lunch and told us about an interesting play they had seen in L.A. It was in an old house, and the play was about the people who had lived in it at one time. This afternoon we went for a walk around the outside of the compound, and then we came back to the apartment, had dinner, and then watched TV. Chris went to sleep a couple of times, but I stayed awake, because I had a diet coke with dinner. It has kept me awake the rest of the evening. We watched Sherlock Holmes, and then we skyped Kaye. She was ready for bed, but we had a short visit before closing it. We talked briefly to Karen again; I wanted her to save clothing catalogs for me, and I forgot to ask her earlier.

Saturday, November 7, 2009

The day has been a little hard for me, because I seem to be coming down with a cold. I cough a lot, and I have a sore throat, but that is all so far--no fever. After breakfast I came back to the apartment and didn't want to do anything very active. Instead I am reading again Patricia Briggs' books about Hurog, because Kaye brought me a shirt with the dragon on it and the title of the book. I have worn it couple of times, and each time people have asked me about it. That is some bit of publicity. Maybe I will loan out the books, that aren't autographed by Patty, for people here to read. I do hope that Kaye won't get sick from me, or the trip down here. We talked to her, and she's tired. Also, they won't be selling their house in Bandon after all, at least not until the new house is finished. I hope we will be able to go up there next year, and see everybody, including Caden, and see the new house. I have spent most of the day reclining with my legs wrapped up, re-reading Dragon Bones and now Dragon Blood. Maybe I can whip this cold before it gets bad. We went to the bank this morning to transfer some money from savings to checking. We had been getting poor interest on it anyway. It was a quick trip, no stopping anywhere else, and we spent the rest of the day here.

Friday, November 6, 2009

We are back to our usual routine. When we changed our clocks, somehow the alarm in the bedroom was set for 6:30 in the morning, instead of 7. So, I just stayed in bed until after 7. We made it to breakfast as usual, and then came back to the apartment to read the morning paper. It was shocking to read of all the people shot at Ft. Hood in Texas. People seem to be going mad. What is happening to our country? After worrying about that, I went to the beauty shop here at Las Villas. My regular operator on Plaza Drive is out of town this week, and I paid a little more here, but we saved gas on not making the trip to Plaza Dr. When I got back we went to lunch and sat with friends we have made here. Besides the meals, house cleaning and part of our laundry, it's sort of nice to be near other people, not as we were, alone, in the house most of time before we came here. This afternoon we napped a little, and then went for a walk around the compound, and enjoyed the sun and nice weather. November is almost always this way here. With my cataract gone, I can see much more clearly. Now I'll sometime have to get the other one removed. Chris is still going to Dr. Dick in San Diego for his shots for Macular Degeneration in his eyes. His next appointment is on Dec. 1.

This is the last day of Kaye's visit; at least we did have breakfast with her before she left for San Diego with Karen, at 9:45. She called us from the airport to say she was checked in and just waiting for her plane. She called us as soon as she was met by Kyle at the Pasco airport, not to far from their house, between 5 and 6pm. After Kaye left we didn't do much, except work on our fiances, go to lunch, nap a while, and then just loaf around, read the paper, looked at books, pay our rent, and walk around the three buildings of Las Villas. Then we went to dinner. There weren't many people there, the rest had gone on a trip to Temecula to a brewery and car museum. We had seen them when we lived in Fallbrook, which is between here and Temecula. After dinner we came back to the apartment and had another piece of birthday cake. It still tastes much better than the same kind of cake they serve here. And this is 4 days after the birthday party for Chris. We have spent the evening reading and working on the computers. I listened to some music on my new MP3, and we talked to Kaye again, and to Carla. Now it is bedtime.

This is Kaye's last full day here. We tried to do all the things we hadn't done while she was here, but we didn't quite make it. After we had lunch here at Las Villas, we drove down to the Kaiser Clinic to have my blood pressure taken by the professionals, I guess Dr. Donahoe was curious about it for some reason. And we picked up 4 prescriptions that we needed refilled. Then we drove back to the Mall near Karen's house, and got Kaye some new sandals for her birthday present. Then we drove to Karen's, where Kaye looked at the faucets at Karen's , so she can get some like them for the new house she Kyle are having built. Karen joined us, and she drove us to San Marcos to Fry's Electronics store. There we walked all around the store, and Kaye, Karen and Chris all bought some equipment. I looked for one of those small washing machines, that you set on the kitchen cabinet and wash clothes. Our sheets and towels are laundered for us here, but we have to wash and dry our personal things. The others found what they wanted, but the store didn't have the washing machine I want. We came back to Oceanside, let Karen off at her house, and we came back to Carlsbad and to Las Villas to have dinner and then a visit in the apartment.

We went to breakfast as usual, and Kaye found some people she had met the two times she has been here before. And they remembered her, too. That was nice. We came back to the apartment and Kyle called to say that his computer had crashed, so Kaye and Chris worked on our two computers, to keep them from crashing, too. I don't understand what it was all about, but that's OK. I don't need to know. The computers are both working fine now, and so is Kaye's. We had lunch, and then Karen came over. We all drove down to Tamarack Beach and walked along the top of the cliff above the ocean, and it was sunny and bright and the ocean was beautiful. We walked about half way along the top of the cliff, where the parkway is, and we shared it with several people out walking walking their dogs, and with some people walking with their babies in strollers. When we got back to the car, we sat there awhile, still enjoying the ocean, until the fog started to come in from the southwest. We drove back to the Villas, where we watched the rest of the fog come in. We had dinner here, and came back to the apartment and have eaten more birthday cake. We still have some for tomorrow. Karen had gone home when we got here, but we will see her again tomorrow.

This morning we went to breakfast, and just got seated when Carla came in with the birthday balloons from yesterday's party Secretary has logged on to leave events as she witnessed. After breakfast and Carla's bringing up the rest of the presents (lovely flowers, cards, etc.) we adjourned to the coffee room downstairs and chatted about Kaye's new house plans until our voices disturbed enough morning paper readers that we had to go to another room. Talk continued until Carla left for the airport. Back in the apartment, we rested until Caden skyped with the help of his dad and we got to watch him play for a while until lunch. He had granola bits, we hung up and went down the hall... Naps and Kaye talks with plumber on phone. Walk in the fog around the building Kaye talks with contractor on phone. Dinner, followed by BIRTHDAY CAKE :-) Secretary yawns and logs off.

It was a great day. We all went to Sacrament Meeting at the church in Oceanside, where we are still members, thanks to our former Bishop. We came back to the apartment, and went to lunch in the dining room and had banana splits! That completely satisfied us, even though we had fasted. We visited here in the apartment with Kaye, and then we went to Karen's for the birthday dinner for Chris. At first we sat outside on the patio and enjoyed the warmth and view of the yard. Then we went back into the house, and Al arrived. We had a call from Bianca, and she and Brittany soon arrived. Terry cooked steaks on the barbecue and Karen had cooked a nice dinner to go with them. Then Karen brought out a decorated birthday cake, and we all sang Happy Birthday to Chris and gave him his presents. After a while Jane and Gary Oddou came over and visited a short time; they had family responsibilities at home and couldn't stay long. After they left, Brittany and Bianca left, because they have to be in classes early on Monday. Then we and Kaye came back to the apartment and soon we will go to bed.
